Lawn mowing

A clean cut, week after week

Lawn mowing sounds simple, and the work itself is. What makes a lawn look good all summer is the schedule. Regular scheduled professional mowing keeps the grass at a healthy height, and consistent mowing promotes thicker, healthier grass while preventing weeds from taking root.

That is the part most homeowners never get from a guy who shows up when he feels like it. DLC Professional Landscape Management is built around weekly service. We run routes out of Posen, most of our customers have about a third acre, and the crew is in and out fast without leaving a mess behind.

Want your lawn on the route? Call us for a free estimate and we will tell you what it takes.

How often should your lawn be mowed?

Once a week through the growing season is the honest answer for almost every lawn in the south suburbs. Grass grows fastest in May and June, and if you skip a week you end up cutting off too much at once, which stresses the turf and leaves clumps of clippings sitting on top. A weekly cut keeps the height steady, keeps the clippings small enough to fall back in and feed the lawn, and keeps weeds from getting the light they need to take hold. That steady rhythm is why we set the business up the way we did. As a Posen landscaping company that runs weekly routes, your property has a day, and we are there on that day.

What mowing height is best for a lawn around Posen?

Taller than most people think. Cutting short looks tidy for two days and then burns out, because short grass grows shallow roots and lets sunlight hit the soil where crabgrass is waiting. University of Illinois Extension recommends a mowing height of about two and a half to three inches for most lawns, and says never to remove more than a third of the blade in one cut. The bluegrass and fescue mixes common around here do well in that range. We set our decks to keep your lawn in that healthy window instead of scalping it, and we adjust when the summer heat sets in.

Do you mow commercial properties too?

We do. A good share of our work is large turf at warehouses, office sites, and multi-family properties, and those jobs run on the same weekly schedule as a house on a quarter acre. The difference is scale and equipment. Big open turf gets mowed with wide decks, the crew works the edges and islands while the mowing runs, and the whole property gets blown off before we pull out. If you manage a building, a lot, or a group of units, our commercial grounds work covers the mowing plus everything else that keeps a property presentable through the season, right down to the shrub line our hedge trimming crews keep in shape.

What happens when the crew shows up?

Not much drama, which is the point. A truck pulls up with two guys. One mows, one trims and edges, and then everything gets blown off the drive, the walks, and the street so it looks finished instead of half done. Most third acre lawns take about ten minutes start to finish. You do not have to be home, you do not have to move anything, and you are not going to find grass piled in your flower beds when you get back. If you want to talk through your property or get on the schedule, give the office a call and a real person picks up, Monday through Friday.

Straight answers to landscaping questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Posen?

It depends on the size of the lawn and how much trimming it needs. We look at your property, then give you a free estimate with no obligation, so you know the number before anything starts.

Do you mow every week or every other week?

Weekly. We are a weekly service, not a one-off job. Grass grows on its own schedule, and a steady weekly cut is what keeps a lawn thick and even through the whole season.

Do I need to be home when you mow?

No. Our crew works the route on a set day each week. Just leave gates unlocked if the back yard is fenced, and we handle the rest without you having to be there.

Do you bag the grass clippings?

Usually we mulch them back into the lawn, since clippings break down fast and feed the grass. If your lawn is very overgrown or wet, we adjust so we are not leaving heavy clumps behind.

Do you trim and edge, or just cut the grass?

Both. Every visit includes string trimming around the beds, fence lines, and posts, plus blowing off the driveway, walks, and street. The lawn should look finished when we pull away.

Which towns do you mow besides Posen?

We run residential routes through the southwest suburbs, including Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Forest, Blue Island, and Midlothian. Call the office and we will tell you if your street is on a route.
